Each summer I take the Sonic version of a "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" road trip, when I go out and film award-winning franchisees and operators for our national convention. We have Sonics in places that aren't the easiest to access and getting there is often half the fun. Despite the complexities of coordinating travel to these locations, going on these shoots is one of my favorite parts of my job. When I'm in these drive-ins and offices, I'm reminded about what genuine, hard-working people represent our brand on a daily basis. I'm inspired by their enthusiasm and their desire to do right by our customers. And, right now, I could really use some motivation.
Due to my surgery, I'm not traveling as much this summer, but I am trying to make it to at least one of the film shoots. When these award-winners are relatively nearby, I typically drive. Right now, I'm pondering whether a 5 hour, one-way drive falls into the "relatively nearby" category, especially factoring in the shoot will not end until early evening, and I have a 7 a.m. flight out of OKC the next morning.
Will the much-needed motivation I'll get by attending this particular shoot be worth either a 10 hour roundtrip car ride, a $300 flight or a $600 flight? Decisions...decisions...
